Excelsior!

Genesis Devlog #18: The Archwizard

by Patricia Mazzei on 7/3/2026

We now return to your regularly scheduled Genesis Friday Devlogs!

Our last update was a deep dive into mystical primordial lore, but today we’re bringing things back to the main story. You can still experience the first six stages in the Demo until Monday. Today, it’s all about a very special, slightly unhinged character waiting for you in the Lozagon Tower: Nivus, the Archwizard!

Many of you already love Nivus, the eccentric wizard casting magic missiles in Kingdom Rush Frontiers. But way before that, he founded the Arcane Academy, where he mentored many distinguished mages, including a young Vez’nan, back before he became the Dark Lord we know today.

In the days of Kingdom Rush Genesis, we meet him in his tower in the middle of an empty field. If you played Vengeance, you know the whole town of Lozagon gets built around the tower. At this time, none of that exists yet, just Nivus, the view… and the hundreds of orcs and bandits that raid the lands!

On their quest to Valardul in search of allies, Gerald and the party come upon Nivus, who offers to help fend off the invading orcs and bandits. And he helps the way only Nivus can: with magic book bodyguards here, or turning the enemy party into animated brooms there.

So yes, he's already a handful. But the fully unhinged Nivus you know from Frontiers is still years away. The eccentricity only deepens with time. Maybe it's the isolation of living alone in that tower. Maybe it's the curse of being a teacher and watching your students grow past your shadow. We'll let you draw your own conclusions on that one.

Meanwhile, stay tuned. A new chapter of ancient lore is coming soon!
